Former Giants great Michael Strahan attended practice this evening. Strahan retired last June and was happy to back with his old buddies. Coach Coughlin exchanged hugs with him and had a brief chat. Strahan said that he was busy with his business activities and preparing to be an NFL expert analysis for the upcoming season.
Coughlin had training start a little earlier, due to the threat of rain, which did not eventuate.
There were several players missing this practice including wide receivers Amani Toomer (knee), Steve Smith (groin) and Mario Manningham (quad), linebackers Mathias Kiwanuka (groin) and Jonathan Goff (back) and cornerbacks Sam Madison (sports hernia) and R.W. McQuarters (hip flexor). Defensive end Osi Umenyiora finished up early due to some knee pain.
Today’s attendance was 2,235 (320 indoors in the morning, 1,915 in the evening). That brings the camp total to 41,120. It is the third time in the Giants’ 13 summers at UAlbany they have surpassed 40,000 in training camp attendance. The record of 45,040 was set in 2004. The Giants will have a full practice tomorrow and a jog through on Sunday before breaking camp.
